Brief background of the bushfire

The Victorian Bushfires started on the 7th of February 2009 and have been the worst bushfires ever seen by Australia.

The loss of life is enormous with the current death toll at 181 (as of 11th of February 2009) and likely to rise. Whole regions have been destroyed and country Victoria and its people will be seriously affected by these fires for years to come.

The most seriously affected areas are around the Kinglake and Marysville regions however further fires in the Gippsland and Bendigo areas are also creating concern with tens of fires still currently burning.

These bushfires are the worst disasters in Victoria and with so many people displaced and their homes lost, rebuilding their communities is of paramount concern.
