Geo-identification – A serious threat to your location privacy on the Internet?

Abstract

Several of the major actors on the Internet apply methods for identifying the geographical location of those they interact with. Such geo-identification has the potential to severely interfere with people’s reasonable privacy expectations online. This paper examines how geo-identification is done, how accurate it is and the privacy implications associated with geo-identification.
