Digital mapping & remote sensing encompasses the area of photogrammetric
research led by Em. Professor John Trinder.
This research includes work on:
- extraction of roads on aerial photography and satellite images by automatic
methods using inductive machine learning.
- extraction of buildings using image processing methods, knowledge based
approaches and incorporating existing information such as that provided by
maps and GIS databases.
- determination of buildings by data fusion. An approach to terrain extraction is being
researched incorporating the extraction of terrain cover information such as vegetation and
buildings based on an interpretive approach and data fusion.
- determination of digital elevation models by fusion of image matching and laser scan data.
