Graduate Study Opportunities in GPS & wireless positioning research
at UNSW
We are looking for special people to undertake
exciting GPS and wireless positioning research within the School of
Surveying & Spatial Information Systems at the University of New
South Wales, Sydney. Why not do a PhD with us?

The Satellite
Navigation and Positioning Laboratory is organised along the lines
of four major themes:
Staff and students have important roles to play in the Cooperative
Research Centre for Spatial Information.
Staff and students are engaged in research and development
into precise GPS (static & kinematic) positioning for navigation,
surveying and geodesy, as well as navigation technologies and applications
in general using a variety of sensor technologies. Most of its research
projects are funded by the Australian Research Council (ARC), while
others are being undertaken in collaboration with industry and international
partners.

Do you think you fit the bill? We are looking
for postgraduate students with the appropriate qualities and skills
to join our research group. Expertise and qualifications in any of the
following: computer science, computer engineering, electrical engineering,
mathematics and physics; is especially sought.
There are two steps:
(1) Enrol for the PhD or Masters
of Engineering program (application
process), in order to be made an "offer" of a place.
(2) Scholarship
support (if student is not self-funded), for either Australian citizens/permanent
residents or International students (see below).

Scholarships
for Australian Citizens or Permanent Residents
If you are an Australian citizen or Permanent Resident
there are two general scholarships available through the following schemes:
(a) Australian Postgraduate Award (APA) (application
deadline end October each year) and,
(b) the UNSW Faculty of Engineering Research Scholarship (application
deadline twice a year).
The value of the scholarship ranges up to AUD$25,000 per
year (most of which is tax exempt) if a "top-up" allowance
is offered in exchange for performing undergraduate teaching support.
As a guide, your undergraduate degree should have been granted at the
Honours 1 level. Information on these, and other more targetted scholarships,

Scholarships
for International Students
If you are a citizen of another country the procedure
is as follows. Each year The University of New South Wales allocates
approximately 15 Endeavour International Postgraduate Research Scholarships
(EIPRS) and University International Postgraduate Research Scholarships
(UIPRS) to the Faculty of Engineering. Application deadline is at
the end of April (for mid-year entry to the current year) or end of
August (for commencement in the following year). This scholarship
covers tutition costs and provides a living allowance of approximately
AUD$18,000 per year. The EIPRS/UIPRS scheme is VERY competitive and
hence only the very best students need apply.
