10.3.1 GPS Surveying Specifications & Recommended Practices

SPECIFICATIONS FOR GPS SURVEYS



These are dependent on the accuracy standard which is to be achieved. They cover such aspects as:

Network design

Instrumentation

Field procedures and monumentation

Office reduction procedures

Calibration and result validation procedures


Furthermore, except for the last item, the above specifications hold equally for GPS "horizontal" and "vertical" surveys. No attempt is therefore made to optimise a GPS survey for height accuracy above that for horizontal accuracy. Each of these topics is discussed briefly below using the Australian S& S and U.S. S& S as examples. (For further details see ICSM, 1994, in the case of the Australian S& S, and FGCC, 1988, for the U.S. S& S.)
