Education:

B.E., Department of Civil Eng., In-je University, South Korea, 2003.

M.E., Civil Engineering (Surveying), Dong-A University, South Korea, 2005.

Research Interests:

  • Development of 3D modelling for urban planning
  • Development of Web-GIS solutions
  • Image processing of LiDAR

Research Project:

New Approach of Extraction 3D Modeling Processing from LIDAR Data

The major contributions of this research lie in three aspects:

1) Two algorithms are developed to perform LIDAR segmentation. Compared with the algorithms proposed by other researchers these two algorithms work well in urban and suburban areas.

2) An algorithm of building boundary regularization is proposed in this study. Compared with the commonly used Minimum Description Length (MDL) algorithm, it is simple to implement and fast in computation.

3) A new method of 3D building model reconstruction from LIDAR data is developed. It is comprised of constructing surface topology, calculating corners from surface intersection, and ordering points of a roof surface in their correct sequence.

Work Experience:

  • Visiting academic research, School of Surveying & Spatial Information Systems, The University of New South Wales (UNSW) from April 2005.
  • Research Assistant, "study on attitude determination of vehicle by integrated system with GPS and low-cost type IMU(1), IMU(2)", Korea Science and Engineering Foundation, Korea, from 2003 to 2005.
  • Research Assistant, "a study for the accuracy assessment of spatial information based on field surveying data", Suk-gok Surveying Science & Technolong Research, from 2004 April to 2004 November.
  • Research Assistant, "construction of the 3D virtual land information and development of its applications", Korean Society for Geo-Spatial Information System, from 2003 August to 2005 March.

Interests:

Soccer, Swimming, Rugby (just watching), etc. I also enjoy the music & travelling.
