Our mission:

Our working group aims at making progress in the automatic extraction of topographic objects, especially buildings and trees, from remotely sensed data for the purpose of creating 3D City Models. It is also our goal to evaluate methods for object extraction and the suitability of different sensors for that task. We are focused on promoting the goals of the WG as expressed in its terms of reference by means of various activities and events and in co-operation with ISPRS, other national and international organisations and Geomatics-related firms.

Terms of Reference:

  • Models and techniques for extraction of buildings, roads (in collaboration with WG III/5) and vegetation for the generation and update of 3D city models from aerial, spaceborne and terrestrial image, laser, and (In)SARdata
  • Interpretation of the above sensor data possibly together with information from traditional cartographic products, CAD models, and urban GIS
  • Automatic and semi-automatic generation of urban models with level-of-detail (LOD) and inferred attribution including analysis of the trade-off between geometry and radiometry / texture for visualization
  • Assessment of efficiency and quality of techniques for extraction of buildings and vegetation and their dependence on the quality of the input data
